Why do I need a bridge?

It is important to replace one or more missing teeth for a number of reasons. The main one for most patients is to improve the appearance of their smile and boost confidence, but replacing teeth has other benefits too. A gap enables your remaining teeth to shift and move out of position, causing issues with alignment which may incur additional costs to rectify.

A bridge also improves the way you eat, providing vital support when you bite or chew. As it is fixed in your mouth and cannot be removed, it is seen as a more secure alternative to a partial denture.

What does the treatment involve?

We begin by examining your teeth, making sure there are no signs of infection and the teeth that will be used as support are healthy and strong. We then prepare these abutment teeth for treatment by removing a layer of enamel.

We take digital impressions of your teeth so your bridge can be made to fit comfortably and precisely. We then fit you with a temporary bridge so your prepared teeth remain protected between appointments.

When your new bridge is ready, we invite you to the practice for your fitting appointment. We check the bridge to make sure it is a perfect fit, adjusting if necessary, before fixing it into place using strong dental cement.
